Ergonomic Mice

“I keep getting pain in my forearm after extended periods using my mouse”

The My Ergonomic Office team recommends trying an ergonomic mouse. A critical advantage of using a vertical mouse over a conventional computer mouse is that your forearm remains in its natural, neutral position. This avoids twisting which can be the cause of pain in the wrist and forearm.

“What are the benefits of an ergonomic mouse and how does it differ from a normal computer mouse?”

An ergonomic mouse should be designed with the person using it in mind; their requirements, their interactions with the device and their habitual behaviour all needing to be taken into account. Fundamentally an ergonomic mouse should provide increased comfort and help reduce musculoskeletal problems associated with mouse usage. Generally this will be achieved through encouraging better posture and position, minimising repetitive movements and increasing the variety of inputting interactions.

There are various ergonomic mice available including; the vertical mouse (of which the Evoluent is a market-leader), the barmouse that incorporates a rollerbar, the Perific mouse and various types of tablet and pen/puck ergonomic mice. All of these need to be looked at individually to assess their own unique benefits.

“My current mouse doesn’t give my hand much support, what can you recommend?”

Our Hummer Wrist Mouse supports not only the hand but also the wrist, providing additional stability due to its unique shape. The ergonomic benefits of this mouse are therefore increased comfort during use.

“How does an ergonomic vertical mouse differ from an ‘ordinary’ mouse?”

An ergonomic vertical mouse ensures that your forearm maintains its neutral position rather than twisting as is the case with an ordinary mouse. To demonstrate this, you will notice your hand naturally sits parallel to your legs when in a relaxed standing position. You will notice how it is necessary to turn your forearm 90 degrees to take hold of a conventional mouse. A vertical mouse however is designed to maintain a natural forearm position, allowing you to work efficiently whilst minimising the risks of musculoskeletal problems. Both the evoluent vertical mouse 2 and the Grip mouse work according to this principal.

“I’d like a mouse that is comfortable to use but also highly functional.”

As well as a fantastic grip shape making it extremely comfortable to use the Evoluent vertical mouse includes; 5 programmable buttons, a first rate 1200 dpi optical sensor for reducing hand motion, light easy to click buttons and longer button travel with more tactile feedback. The evoluent also incorporates a ‘soft to the touch’ coating for your added computing comfort.

“I’m not technically minded but want an ergonomic mouse that’s easy to use and gets the job done.”

At www.myergonomicoffice.co.uk we cater for both the technologically timid and the computer savvy. We do the hard work for you by choosing ergonomic office equipment that’s straightforward to use without compromising on functionality. We’d highly recommend the Evoluent Mouse 2 as a vertical mouse with a great feel, maximising your comfort whilst being extremely accurate and requiring minimal hand movement.

“Do you have a mouse made specifically for left-handed people?”

The incredibly popular Evoluent vertical mouse 2 has a specially designed left-handed mouse version incorporating all the advantages of their right-handed ergonomic mouse.
